Marta T. Raga

I didn’t start as a painter. I started as a daughter trying to fix something that couldn’t really be fixed.

My family’s homes were among those flooded in Valencia in October 2024 — my parents’ the worst, with over a metre and a half of water through the ground floor. In the weeks after, as we replaced furniture and slowly put the house back together, the paintings that had hung there for years still carried a faint line of mud across them. My mother would look at that line and go straight back to that night.

So I told her: let’s cover the old canvas, choose new colours together, and I’ll paint something for the new room. I’d never painted before — never even touched acrylic. I went to Artes Vidal, an old art supply shop here in Valencia, and asked them to teach me: how to prime, how to mix, how much water, how much gloss. I wanted to work with my hands.

Those first three paintings are still hanging in my parents’ living room. A furniture supplier delivering new pieces saw them, and asked if I’d paint more for his shop. That’s how this began.

Looking back, that first painting was my first commission, long before I had a word for it: my mother and I chose the colours together, for the room she was rebuilding. Every commission I take on since has followed the same quiet logic — start with the space, and the person, and let the colour do the rest.

I paint because it brings me back to myself — hands moving, mind quiet, colour doing what words can’t. My work is abstract because I don’t want to tell you what to feel in front of it. I want you to find your own reflection there, the way my mother found something other than that night.

Commission FAQ

What to expect, before you write

Who are commissions for?

Private residences, interior designers and architects, hospitality and commercial spaces. Single statement pieces or a cohesive body of work developed for one project across multiple sizes.

How does the process start?

With a short discovery call — space, dimensions, palette, and the feeling the room should hold. From there, a written proposal with price and timeline, confirmed with a 50% deposit.

How long does a commission take?

3–4 weeks from confirmation to delivery, including worldwide shipping. Canvases travel rolled, professionally packed, with certificate of authenticity included.

How do we agree on the piece before it’s painted?

Palette and direction are set together beforehand — including a choice between two signature styles: fully layered colour across the canvas, or a quieter composition with more breathing room. Nothing is left to chance.

Can I see the piece in my space before committing?

For larger and multi-piece projects, I can develop two finished versions within the agreed palette and mock them into a photo of your space so you can compare directly. You only pay — deposit included — for the one you choose.

What if I don’t choose the second piece?

There’s no return to arrange. The unselected work simply joins my available collection — no refunds, no return shipping on your end.

Can you develop a series for one project?

Yes — a cohesive body of work across several sizes, conceived together for a single space, is one of the things I most enjoy developing with designers and hospitality projects.

Do you ship internationally?

Worldwide, from Valencia. VAT and shipping are quoted separately in the proposal, so there are no surprises later.
